New South Wales Road Trippin’

NSW-10.jpg

Back in late February I went on a 9 day road trip photographing my way along the coast from Mallacoota in Victoria and up into New South Wales where I participated in a week long Better Photography workshop based in Narooma hosted by Peter Eastway and Len Metcalf.

I can often get a little stuck in my ways when it comes to my outlook on how I shoot landscape photography so it was a great experience to be surrounded by new faces of all ages who each brought something different in terms of style and technique to their photography. Part of the experience of the workshop was learning from the two wizards Peter and Len. Peter with his in-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of photography from printing, to post processing and more, to Len with his passionate creativity and diverse background in art. I learnt equally from both artists who made the perfect pairing to host a workshop, even with such differing styles of creating images.

Each day saw us up before dawn to make sunrise shoots at each location on the Sapphire Coast, followed by learning sessions throughout the day and some lighthearted critiquing and printing followed by a sunset or evening shoot.

I’ll admit I can be guilty of only ever looking at my images on the screen so it was a worthwhile learning experience for me to see Peter’s Epson printer working away and bringing each participant’s work to life ready for a wall or two.

Below are some of my favourite photos from the trip, I really enjoyed my first time visiting new locations along the Victorian and New South Wales coast and can’t wait to get back to some of them for a second time, or third! Locations include Mallacoota, Bermagui, Narooma, a side trip to near Canberra and a morning shoot at The Big Drift sand dunes of Wilsons Promontory National Park on the final day.
